Team Liquid's NuckleDu Beats Evil Geniuses Ricki Ortiz in All-American Capcom Cup

Team Liquid's Du ‘NuckleDu’ Dang has been crowned the winner of the 2016 Capcom Cup over the weekend, triumphing over Evil Geniuses’ Ricki Ortiz. NuckleDu will take home a prize purse of $230,000 for his efforts, while Ortiz walks away with $60,000. The total prize pool for the event was $350,000.

This particular battle was the first time that both finalists were American, a marked change from the usual domination by top-tier Asian region players. Six of the other top eight places were taken by Japanese players, with 2015 Cup winner Ryota ‘Kazunoko’ Inoue in third place, and Tatsuya ‘Haitani’ Haitani in fourth.

NuckleDu’s combination of Rainbow Mika, Guile, and Nash took him to victory in the finals, something he attributes to each character “covering each other's bad matchups.” Ortiz, who specializes in Chun Li, struggled to make any kind of aerial offensive due to NuckleDu’s fireball control.

Capcom used the event to announce Street Fighter V DLC which will bring not only Akuma but also five “completely new characters” to the game in 2017. No details about this “character pass” were revealed, but it is available to pre-order now.
