Britain Launches Professional Esports Association

The British Esports Association has formally launched, revealing its new website and full advisory board listing.

Established to “support, promote and instill good governance for amateur esports players and teams,” the association will have its first board meeting in January of next year.

Attending that meeting will be:

  • Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner, Veteran Esports Host, Caster, and Presenter
  • Richard Lewis, Esports Journalist of the Year
  • Michael "ODEE" O'Dell, President Team Dignitas
  • Craig "Wizzo" Fletcher, Founder Multiplay
  • Chris Mead, Twitch's UK Director of Partnerships
  • Ryan Hart, World Champion Esports Player
  • Ceirnan " Excoundrel " Lowe, Colour Caster
  • Josh Williams, Founder, National University Esports League
  • Carleigh Morgan, Academic
  • Andrew Nixon, Partner at Sheridan's

They will be joined by chairman and head of the association Andy Payne, who comes from places like Mastertronic and the UKIE, and has been awarded an OBE for his services to the UK computer games industry.

This move is part of an emerging global trend to formalize esports players, teams, and organizationsnot only in the way they compete, but in their legal standing and responsibilities.

Most recently, the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo moved to enshrine esports players as athletes under law.
