Ninjas in Pyjamas Lose ELEAGUE Qualifier to Vega Squadron

In a world-shattering play during the ELEAGUE qualifiers today, Ninjas in Pyjamas were eliminated from the tournament following a 16-2 loss to Vega Squadron. The elimination marks the first time in the history of the Major that NiP will not be present at the event, since its inception in 2013.

The qualifiers started out well for the Ninjas, taking out the Detroit Renegades 16-9 on day one. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there, losing to HellRaisers 19-17 on day two and OpTic Gaming 16-9 on day three. Vega Squadron took an easy lead on day four and were already miles ahead at 13-2 at halftime, rounding it out to 16-2 by the end of the second half.

Checking out the match’s stats on HLTV, it’s clear something wasn’t clicking into place for NiP, as the whole team rated below 1.0. Team captain GeT_RiGhT (nominally one of the Ninja’s finest players), scored an impressively low 0.09, and only managed to take out two of the Squadron.

The team has been understandably quiet on Twitter following the loss. Only Pyth has commented, calling the match a “horrendously bad performance” and apologizing to fans. GeT_RiGhT is taking it hard but proving a good sport, saying Vega “played their hearts out and deserve the win,” before adding he would be staying away from social media for the time being.

It’s certainly a turnout for the books, with Vega Squadron only one win away from qualifying for the ELEAGUE Major 2017. Make sure to follow along here on Unikrn for all the latest!
