NiKo to transfer to FaZe Clan after DreamHack Las Vegas

FaZe Clan have just confirmed the biggest transfer of the off-season so far, announcing Nikola “NiKo” Kovač will be leaving mousesports behind and joining FaZe.

Generally considered to be one of the best Counter-Strike: GO players in the world (and dreamiest by at least one Australian reporter), many thought that he was being held back by the current mouz roster who continue to underperform. After a disappointing ELEAGUE major, NiKo felt it was time to move on.

"After the major, NiKo approached us with the wish to join FaZe,” CEO of mousesports Cengiz Tüylü said in a statement. “We agreed, that after all the effort he put in at mousesports, it was time to search for a solution that would benefit everyone involved.

“Together with FaZe, we worked out one of the biggest transfers in esports to date. We see this as a big opportunity to rework our roster and build a much more homogeneous mousesports team that our fans can get behind again."

The position on FaZe’s roster opened up after FC Copenhagen’s new team North announced that Philip “aizy” Aistrup would be leaving FaZe to join them.

“When approached by North about Aizy, before approving his transfer we first needed to survey who our prospective replacements for him could be,” FaZe’s announcement reads.

“While others were considered, we quickly defaulted to NiKo as a talent we have long coveted. In our eyes, with our lineup around him, he has the potential to become the best player in the world in 2017.”

Mousesports will compete with its current roster one last time at DreamHack Masters in Las Vegas after which NiKo will officially make the switch.
