ELEAGUE Enters The World of Fighting Games With $250k Street Fighter Tournament

ELEAGUE have announced they will be branching out into the world of fighting games with the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational beginning in March. 32 of the world’s best players will be competing in Atlanta for a prize pool of $250,000.

"Our fighting games and esports initiatives are extremely important sectors of our business and partnering with ELEAGUE provides us with an excellent opportunity to deliver the excitement of live Street Fighter V competition to a wider audience,” CEO of Capcom USA Kiichiro Urata said in a statement.

“Teaming up with one of the leaders of live event experiences is another step forward for the Street Fighter brand, and we can’t wait for newcomers and long-time fans to see our beloved franchise presented in a new and unique way.”

Preliminaries begin on March 27 and will be streamed on Twitch. Excitingly, a recap of the prelims will be aired on TBS and later rounds of the competition will be simulcast on both Twitch and TBS. TBS will also air a “feature show” on April 28 and a finals preview on May 19.

"Being on TBS allows Street Fighter and the Capcom Pro Tour to reach a much wider mainstream audience," John Diamonon, the director of licensing for Capcom stated. "We see this as a vehicle and opportunity to grow the Fighting Game Community and fighting games in general to new heights."

Stay tuned for more details as ELEAGUE will have more to say closer to the starting date.
